lakeFS, the control plane for AI-ready data, today announced the lakeFS Summer 2026 release of lakeFS Enterprise, highlighting a new set of capabilities that give enterprise AI and data teams automated governance and control over the vast amount of unstructured and structured data that powers AI solutions, models, and agents. As AI initiatives scale and AI regulation and governance requirements accelerate, the risk of compliance failures, costly mistakes, and delays increases significantly.
According to Deloitte’s 2026 State of AI in the Enterprise, only 21% of organizations say they have a mature governance model in place for agentic AI. As these systems move from pilot to production, the consequences become real: data cannot be reproduced, audit trails are incomplete, and access controls are inadequate for increasingly autonomous workflows. For any company doing business in Europe, that will solidify on August 2, 2026, when key provisions of the EU AI Act take effect, giving organizations a hard deadline for demonstrating governance over the data behind their AI systems.
The lakeFS Control Plane for AI-Ready Data addresses these governance and compliance requirements for AI data by providing a light infrastructure layer that sits between the data and the AI technology consuming it. This “AI data governance by design” automatically produces audit-ready evidence, lowers compliance risk, and helps AI teams prevent costly mistakes.
The lakeFS Summer 2026 Release comes on the heels of the recently announced lakeFS for Agentic AI, providing isolated data sandboxing and further extending these capabilities:
- Governance and flexibility with datasets, a new semantic layer for trusted data: Datasets enable teams to define, version, discover, and securely share logical sets of data spanning objects, prefixes, Iceberg tables, and namespaces without exposing where data is physically stored. Every dataset is immutable, governed, and reusable, providing agents and AI and data teams with a stable interface for consuming trusted data.
- Multi-tenancy for isolated environments within a single deployment: Organizations can separate teams, business units, customers, or regulatory domains without managing multiple installations.
- Advanced data retention management with branch & object lifecycle management: This feature automates branch cleanup, data retention, and deletion policies to support compliance requirements, reduce storage costs, and eliminate manual cleanup.
- Enhanced administrative and user controls: The release also includes several new features for audit data export, discoverability, and permission management. For more details, read the product announcement blog post.
Customer perspective
“As a global identity company handling highly sensitive biometric and other personally identifiable data, we can’t bolt governance and compliance on afterwards. They have to be built in from the start, and at scale. With lakeFS, we’ve built a well-designed system that smoothly handles datasets at massive scale without compromising user experience, compliance, or regulatory requirements. This new release gives us even more ways to govern our AI data and stay ahead of a growing list of compliance requirements.”
Damien Matias, MLOps Manager, Entrust
Executive perspective
“For most organizations, an audit is a project: weeks spent reconstructing who touched which data, and when. It shouldn’t be. When your infrastructure silently isolates, protects, and tracks every move in your data, the audit is just a query. This governance-focused release builds on that architectural foundation and adds further flexibility and administrative controls, such as dataset-level governance and automated retention, for AI and data teams. Proving control over AI data stops being a fire drill and becomes a property of how the data is managed.”
Oz Katz, CTO and Co-Founder, lakeFS
