Linshom Medical Receives $100K MIPS award to Launch a Clinical Trial with the University of Maryland School of Medicine

BALTIMORE, MD, UNITED STATES, August 6, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Linshom Medical announced today that it has been awarded a $100,000 Phase 2 grant from the Maryland Industrial Partnerships (MIPS) program to support an interventional clinical trial of its respiratory monitoring device, led by faculty from the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM).

“This clinical trial is an extension of a Phase 1 clinical study completed last year and will evaluate the device’s ability to drive early intervention of patient respiratory decline in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU),” said Donald R. Herdt, MD, MBA, principal investigator and assistant professor of anesthesiology at UMSOM. “The Phase 1 study demonstrated the device’s ability to detect respiratory depression episodes (RDEs) 25 minutes before current standard of care. Now, we will measure the effect of early intervention.”

“Current standard of care and existing technology provide warnings after a patient is in respiratory trouble,” said Richard Hughen, chief executive officer of Linshom Medical. “If we are able to provide early or predictive notice of respiratory decline, health care providers should be able to intervene and avoid costly events like rapid response activations, rescue events (codes), and intensive care unit transfers.”

MIPS provides matching grants for collaborative research projects between Maryland-based companies and University System of Maryland institutions. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis and are based on proposals submitted jointly by participating companies and university researchers.
