Cambia Health Foundation Awards More Than $500,000 to Strengthen Integrated Primary Care

The U.S. healthcare system focuses on treating disease but too often fails to address factors like housing instability, food insecurity and lack of behavioral healthcare access that are also fundamental to a person’s overall health and well-being. Cambia Health Foundation is committed to bridging that divide, announcing more than $500,000 in grants to expand and support integrated primary care teams across Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

“Everyone deserves to be seen not just as a patient, but as a whole person with unique needs and circumstances,” said Allison Gruber, vice president and leader of Cambia Health Foundation. “When care teams have the resources to build trust with their patients and address the full picture of a person’s health, it prevents people from falling through the cracks and gets ahead of challenges before they escalate. These grants invest in exactly that.”

Evidence shows that integrated primary care improves health outcomes and reduces overall costs for both individuals and entire communities. These care teams are essential to transforming the healthcare experience by addressing physical, behavioral and social needs in a whole-person approach.

Grant recipients include community health centers, rural hospitals, mobile healthcare clinics and community-based organizations on the front lines of serving populations experiencing higher rates of poverty, insurance gaps, complex health needs and barriers to care. Grantees include:

Selected organizations are pursuing a range of strategies driven by local needs, including workforce training and career development, wellness programs that address burnout and support resilience, technology to expand remote access to care and more.

“These investments reflect our belief that strengthening the healthcare workforce is not a one-time effort — it’s a long-term commitment to building a system that actually works for people and that meets them where they are,” said Gruber. “When we invest in the people and teams delivering that care, we invest in healthier futures for entire communities.”
