Nidec accelerates towards sustainable operations

Qingdao plant achieves carbon neutrality for the first time, Beijing renews certification

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, August 31, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Nidec ACIM (Appliance, Commercial and Industrial Motors) continues advancing toward its 2030 sustainability goals with the Qingdao Industrial Park achieving carbon neutrality for the first time, and the Beijing plant successfully renewing its certification.

Qingdao joins Joinville (Brazil) and Beijing (China), positioning itself as the third Nidec ACIM facility to reach carbon-neutral status, an important milestone, given that these three sites collectively account for over a third of the Business Unit’s global production revenue.

Qingdao’s carbon neutrality in year one
The milestone follows the park’s first anniversary, underscoring the local team’s commitment to embedding sustainability into daily operations from day one while strictly following the company-wide decarbonization framework.

After mapping the facility’s emissions baseline, the priority was to reduce direct energy consumption by high-efficiency machinery and advanced lighting systems which were designed and carried out in the construction phase. The second step was to eliminate Scope 2 emissions by transitioning to 100% renewable electricity. By combining on-site solar panels with Green Electricity Certificates (GEC), the Park avoided roughly 12,000 tons of CO₂ (equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 7,300 households ). Finally, residual Scope 1 emissions were offset using certified Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) credits, funding environmental projects.

Qingdao – which already operates as a hub of excellence by combining manufacturing, Research & Development, and services under the same roof – now offers a complete ecosystem where customers have an environment that is both technologically advanced and sustainable, directly contributing to the reduction of their indirect (Scope 3 ) emissions.

Sustained progress in Beijing
While achieving carbon neutrality is a major milestone, maintaining it year after year reflects the commitment and strength of Nidec ACIM’s sustainability strategy. In line with this approach, the Beijing plant successfully renewed its carbon-neutral status based on operational upgrades made in the past and 100% green electricity for Scope 2.
Furthermore, to minimize its carbon offset requirements, the plant successfully optimized laboratory refrigerants. This initiative eliminated nearly 2,000 tons of carbon, accounting for roughly 30% of its Scope 1 footprint.

“At Nidec ACIM, sustainability is central to our strategy and embedded in the DNA of every motor and compressor we build,” says Tim Schamel, Nidec ACIM CEO. “Our commitment spans the entire value chain: starting upstream with a sustainable supply chain, continuing through carbon-neutral manufacturing, and extending to high-efficiency end-use applications. Together, our milestones in Qingdao, Beijing, and Joinville create a virtuous cycle that drives our business, protects the planet, and empowers our customers to achieve their own sustainability targets.”

This momentum extends across Nidec ACIM’s entire global footprint, where all facilities continue to evaluate and pursue pathways to carbon-neutral operations. Each advancement reinforces a clear business priority: decarbonizing manufacturing hubs is a core strategy to drive efficiency, sharpen differentiation, and deliver lasting value.
