New pharmaceutical and device company members broaden the Consortium’s expertise supporting diabetic retinal disease research.

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Nov. 5, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative (MTM Vision) today announced that Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has joined the MTM Vision Consortium as a founding member and Adaptive Sensory Technology as a device company member.

Hosted at the University of Michigan by the Elizabeth Weiser Caswell Diabetes Institute and Kellogg Eye Center, the MTM Vision Consortium unites academic and industry researchers in a precompetitive environment to advance understanding of diabetic retinal disease and accelerate the development of therapies to preserve and restore vision in people with diabetes.

Together with our first founding member, Boehringer Ingelheim, the new members bring complementary pharmaceutical and device expertise to the Consortium. Their participation will help scale the MTM Vision Biorepository and Resource Center and the MTM Vision Endpoints and Biomarker Data Resource Center, supporting expanded human ocular sample collection and characterization; enhanced biological and clinical data analysis; validation of useful biomarkers and endpoints supporting new regulatory pathways; and sample and data sharing, thereby enhancing scientific collaboration and accelerating progress.

MTM VISION PERSPECTIVE

My wife, Mary Tyler Moore, lived with many serious consequences of diabetes, but for her, vision loss from diabetic retinal disease was the most devastating. Throughout her life and career, Mary was defined by her iconic, team-player attitude, which serves as the direct inspiration for the MTM Vision Consortium. We founded this public-private partnership on the belief that no single entity can cure diabetes-related vision loss alone; it requires academia and industry to work collaboratively to accelerate breakthroughs. We are incredibly proud of what we have built and are gratified to be able to welcome Regeneron and AST to the consortium. By combining our strengths, this expanded team brings us closer than ever to our ultimate mission of eliminating diabetes-related vision loss and blindness.

S. Robert Levine, MD, Founder and CEO, Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative

The University of Michigan coordinates and administers the Consortium, whose aim is to generate new insights into the molecular and cellular basis of diabetic retinal disease and translate scientific discoveries into new therapeutic strategies.
